What my role looks like?

Team 

I work across 3 pods with a total of 15 engineers, 2 designers, and 3 QAs.
I spend 70% of my time in the android pod, and the remaining 30% in the other two pods.

I lead the Android App product here at Sportskeeda.
The app has 1M+ downloads, a 4.3+ rating, and 100k+ MAU.

Include increasing retention, engagement, and revenue

What I have achieved so far

Goal 1 - increase D28 retention

   Activity 

  • Researched and added the Fantasy section on the app.

  • Inside the Cricket Match Center, Fantasy users can look at tips and make their teams on other platforms.

  • Revamped the entire onboarding UI and logic. 

   Result - increase in retention from 14% to 24%

  • A significant increase was seen because even on the day when the Indian Cricket Team was not playing, there were other smaller leagues going on, and our fantasy users would still come on the app to look at tips.

  • First impressions matter and an onboarding with better UI/UX saw our week 1 retention numbers sky-rocket

Goal 3 - increase revenue

   Activity 

  • Worked with the ad-operations team to identify possible ad units on the app.

  • Worked with focus groups to understand user scrolling behavior.

  • Conducted user and market research to understand pain points of users with ads on mobile devices.

   Result - increase in revenue by 200%

  • All the above activities helped us put ads at strategic places inside the app without affecting the user experience, which lead to a drastic rise in revenue .

Goal 2 - increase engagement

   Activity 

  • Designed the entire notifications system ground up.

  • Added the entire comments section on article and post pages.

  • Revamped the design on feed pages.

  • Added features such as polls and quizzes on the app. 

   Result - increase in average time spent by 21%

  • A mix of all the above activities led to an increase in the time spent by users on the app and an increase in interactions within our sports community.

Goal 4 - add a new business line

   Activity 

  • Researched and understood the nuances around content generation, and the need to provide fresh content every time the user opens the app.

  • Wrote the first PRD for adding social posts into the app and web feeds.

   Result - increase in average time spent by 21%

  • Significantly fresher feed and an increase in engagement from users in the form of likes.
